E3 2009: Metal Gear Solid: Rising revealed

by on June 2, 2009

In a shock move today during the Microsoft E3 conference, Mr Hideo Kojima himself turned up to announce that Metal Gear Solid is coming to the Xbox 360 and it will be called Metal Gear Solid: Rising. Have a look at the announcement trailer below.

  • The trailer indicates that Raiden will be the main character and Kojima himself suggested that Solid Snake will not have a role in the game. The tagline “Lightening Bolt Action” suggests the stealth oriented gameplay of previous MGS games will be ditched in favour of more action. Now we are huge fans of Kojima’s previous games but such a shift in gameplay would surely raise some doubt amongst fans of the prevous MGS games. After all, this is a series that pretty much carved out the stealth genre.

Also, this certainly does seems like the game the Kojima Productions site has been teasing at over the past few weeks. However, there was another image, the one showed Big Boss, which is still unaccounted for at the moment. Will we be getting two MGS titles? One based on Raiden and the other on Big Boss? If so, that would be gaming heaven. A few reports have suggested that Rising is a Xbox 360 exclusive, so maybe that means the Big Boss based MGS will only be released on one of the Sony platforms. One thing we know for sure, things will be hotting up over the next couple of days.
