E3 2009: Miyamoto talks new Zelda

Now if your anything like us here at GodisaGeek you’ve been wondering where the Godfather of gaming, Shigeru Miyamoto has been hiding all E3. Well sources tell he has actually been at the convention all along and has been very busy in talks with various developers (guess that explains why he wasn’t at the conference then and here I was thinking that swine flu was the cause). It seems Mr Miyamoto has been holding his own little undercover conference at the LA Convention Center (wouldn’t be the first time). Only a small group of journalists were allowed in to hear the man himself discuss his thoughts on gaming in general and the state of the industry.

The full details of what was said can be found here. In it, he mentions he has been working on a new project in particular which will be DS based and has been taking up much of his time. From what is mentioned, it seems it will be city guide oriented, so some sort of DS navigational software might be instore. He moves onto talk about the two new Mario games and Wii Sports Resort, but alas this is not why your reading my ramblings so I’ll get straight to the point. There will be a new Zelda coming next year that will maintain the graphical style of Twilight Princess and come equipped with extensive Wii Motion Plus gameplay mechanics. The reason given by Miyamoto as to why no footage of the game was shown was “To be honest, I really wanted to show off a new Zelda at this E3. However, rather than bring you something, we wanted to focus on development.”

Unfortunately no photography or filming was allowed in the conference therfore we can’t see how the game is progressing (sorry guys).
