E3 2009: New Castlevania game unveiled

by on June 4, 2009

So was anyone wondering what all that “mask” stuff was about on the Kojima Productions website? I mean even when Metal Gear Solid: Rising was revealed on the website, cryptic messages and questions relating to “the mask” could still be seen. Well earlier today at the Konami press conference, Kojima revealed that his team are currently working on a new game called Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. That’s right people, a Castlevania game is on its way to the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Now Kojima Productions are not working on this game alone, they will be joined by Spanish based studio Mercury Stream. These guys have previously worked on titles such as Cliver Barker’s Jericho and American McGee’s Scrapland. Not the most impressive list of games to have worked on in the past but hey, we’re willing to give them a chance especially seeing as they will be collaborating with the talent at Kojima Productions. Oh and they also have the vocal talents of Patrick Stewart and Robert Carlyle onboard so I guess if all else fails, the voices for certain characters will be decent!

Seriously though, the previous Castlevania games have a pretty huge following especially Symphony of Night, that game is still regarded as an absolute classic. The more recent games in the series have been released on the DS and are actually really good but unfortunately they didn’t have the high sales figures to match. Judging by the trailer for this new game (which is linked to can be seen at the end of the article) it seems like the gameplay has moved on with the times a bit and reminds us alot of God of War which is by no means a bad comparison but can it really compete with that powerhouse title?! I guess we will have to wait to find out for sure, in the meantime we will keep you posted on any new developments.
