YouTube strikes again: 8 Minutes of Modern Warfare 2 footage

Well somehow YouTube does it again as the whole opening mission in all its splendor and glory is “mysteriously” available for your viewing pleasure. So we thought we would do the work for you so you don’t have to and bring the video over to GodisaGeek. Once again it seems you start your Modern Warfare campaign off in a vehicle but that’s where the similarity ends as it seems you need to track down your target and execute him in the back of an alley way (“classy”, right?). The rest of the mission seems to take place in the backstreets of this unnamed city where you need to avoid civilian casualties while your trying to fill the bad guys with a clip full of ammo. As it stands it seems like a nice warm-up for the onslaught of  awesome set pieces we can normally expect from this franchise and I for one cannot wait.

The BBC pinned the issue down to a hardware issue present is most consoles, and we know from most cases it is in fact a hardware issue. In response, Sony sent a letter to the BBC detailing the returns policy and commenting on the hardware failure. If you are interested in reading this incredibly long letter, we’ve included it below.

Toshiba Making PS3 Compatible 640GB HDD

Toshiba has recently revealed that they are creating a hard drive that has a higher maximum areal density, allowing 160GB on a single side of a platter, rather than the usual 125GB, allowing 640GB of space to fit onto 2 data platters, up from the original 500GB. HDDs will be made available some time between October and December this year. The part number to watch out for will be M6465GSX.

Currently, the PlayStation 3 can only support hard drives upto 500GB, though the 2.5″ SATA drives are available up to 1TB though these drive are slightly larger than the HDD bay on the PlayStation 3. The reason the high-capacity HDDs are also physically larger is because they contain a third disc, or platter, holding the extra data.  The practical limit for data storage on a single side of one platter has been around 125GB for a while now, with 500GB drives using both sides of two platters.

PS3 Firmware Update v3.01 Now Available

A new PlayStation 3 firmware update is now available to download using the [System Update] feature. This optional update improves system stability during the use of some PlayStation 3 titles, including the Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune freezing issues. It’s taken Sony two weeks to release a patch for the reported issues, but at least it’s finally here.

If you have been experiencing freezing issues with Uncharted or any other title, you are recommended to update to version 3.01, otherwise, you should keep firmware 3.00 installed. This update is optional so you are still able to access the PlayStation Network if you are on firmware 3.00.
