Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands Announced
Ubisoft have today announced another addition to much loved Prince of Persia series. Surprisingly enough though this new addition will not be a sequel to 2008′s cel shaded “reboot” (Prince of Persia) but it will be a new entry into the Sands of Time storyline. The game will be titled Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and will be released around the same time as the Disney movie, which means we are looking at a release of May 2010.
Following the announcement Yves Guillemot (Ubisoft CEO) said that the game “will be true to the Prince of Persia roots and should leverage the fantastic impact the movie is going to have on our franchise”. To add to that he also stated the game will cater for both hardcore and casual gamers.
Without sounding too negative, the fact that Ubisoft have stated the game will be coming out around the same time as the Prince of Persia movie (along with the hardcore and casual references) does kind of suggest to us this could be a direct movie tie-in and, let’s face it, we all know how those usually turn out. However without any confirmation from an official source this movie tie-in talk is all just speculation at the moment and in any case if the Ubisoft Montreal folks are behind it we should get a pretty decent game. After many years of working on the series they have yet to give us a bad Prince of Persia game, hopefully the trend continues with this new title.
