361057-yakuza_3_20080707074022588_largeSega have announced that Ryu ga Gotoku 3 (like a dragon) will be making it’s way to Western shores and is slated for a March 2010 release date in both the US, UK and Australia. The franchise has always had a dedicated fanbase in Japan whilst Yakuza 2 managed to accumulate a cult following in the west. Apparently these fans have been trying to make themselves heard as the reasoning given by SEGA for the recently decided western localisation was:-

“Yakuza 3 was one of the most requested titles for localisation by our European SEGA community, so we are delighted to be able to fulfil their wishes with this announcement.” said Gary Knight, European Marketing Director, SEGA Europe Ltd. “As well as delving even further into the rich narrative of the Yakuza universe, the development team have pushed the PlayStation 3 hardware to the limits to produce a beautiful and startlingly realistic depiction of the Japanese underworld.”

Hardened fans and Japanophiles alike will be pleased to know that the game is being fully subtitled as well as retaining the original Japanese voice acting (suck on that Square Enix) which should keep the unique Japanese tone of the game intact. So if you are not fully fluent in Japanese and didn’t import the game keep an eye out for this one; the staff at God is a Geek will be for sure.
