Halo: Reach – Most Successful Microsoft Game Launch Of All Time

by on September 17, 2010

Bungie’s blockbuster Halo:Reach has generated over $200 million in the first 24 hours of release in the United States and Europe, making it both the biggest U.S. entertainment launch of the year, and the biggest release of any game Microsoft has ever released – beating previous record-holder Halo 3.

This means that the launch of Reach was bigger than that of Toy Story 3 and Iron Man 2 – two of the summers biggest blockbuster films. It has also clocked up launch-day sales bigger than any previous Halo, Gears of War or Fable releases – to name but a few. Of course, there are still other games which ave had bigger day-one numbers, but they are multi-format games such as Modern Warfare 2 and Grand Theft Auto 4. It waits to be seen whether Reach can outsell the big christmas titles Call of Duty: Black Ops and Medal of Honour, but Microsoft are confident it will be the biggest game of the year.

Halo: Reach is available now – read out review here, or buy it here: US, UK.
