Cap Throws His Mighty Shield In – Captain America: Super Soldier

He may not be the coolest character around, what with patriotism not being the first thing on our minds nowadays, but – in conjunction with the forthcoming film – SEGA is working on a new videogame outing for one of the most iconic faces in comic books – Captain America: Super Soldier. It will see our hero back at his roots, during World War 2, where he faces off against his arch-nemesis: The Red Skull and Hydra. The title will be developed by Next Level Games and features an all-new story penned by Marvel comic writer Christos Gage. The story will coincide with the film, but be an original take on it, rather than just following the identical plot.

Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA America, stated in a press release that the development team has been working closely with Marvel, to make sure that “we’re delivering the calibre of product that gamers and comic fans deserve and it’s a partnership we’re proud of here at SEGA.” Captain America: Super Soldier will be a third person action adventure game in a similar vein to Batman: Arkham Asylum, in that it will combine acrobatic exploration elements with free-form combat. This will, of course, utilise Captain America’s iconic shield, for both defence and offence.

The game is due for release in Summer 2011 – around the same time that the Movie is due – and will be available on 360, Playstation 3, Wii and Nintendo DS. Why there hasn’t been a Union Jack game made yet, I don’t know.
