Gran Turismo Series Surpasses 60 million Sales

Hang on, you can actually buy this game now?

After the excruciatingly long wait, hugely anticipated driving sim Gran Turismo 5 was finally released around the world last month. The game – unsurprisingly – is selling like hot cakes and the Gran Turismo series as a whole has now powered past an incredible checkpoint. Over the course of the five core games and a further 4 prologues or hand-held adaptations, the series has now sold over 60 million units. Sony Computer Entertainment made the announcement, following on from the news that the newly-released GT5 sold 5.5 copies worldwide after only 12 days on sale.

With versions of the game available on PlayStation®, PlayStation®2, PlayStation®3 (PS3®) and even PSP®, this awesome figure was achieved in a little under thirteen years since the Japanese launch of the first title in the franchise, Gran Turismo, which was unleashed on the PSone in December 1997.

The latest instalment features a brand new physics engine for an improved handling experience and a massive line-up of more than 1,000 licensed cars from the world’s top manufacturers.  The game also shows off stereoscopic 3D support, real-time car damage, dynamic weather effects and online and community features where players can race with up to 16 players through PlayStation®Network.

So after the delays in seeing GT5 released, was it worth the wait? Stay tuned for a Godisageek.com review, coming soon.
