Dragon Age II Soundtrack Will Feature Florence And The Machine And Inon Zur

Dragon Age IIBioware’s hotly anticipated sequel to Dragon Age: Origins will have a diverse soundtrack featuring Florence and the Machine and Inon Zur, who has also composed music for Fallout 3 and the Prince of Persia series.

Fans of Florence and the Machine’s phenomenally successful debut album Lungs will recognise the track “I’m Not Calling You a Liar”, which has been remixed to provide the game’s theme song. Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Marketing for EA, explains: “What was originally a powerfully stark, acoustic-based song has been reborn with all-new instrumentation and full orchestration. The results are an epic anthem for the next stage of the Dragon Age legend”.

The bar for RPG/pop music crossovers has been set preposterously low by Final Fantasy XIII, which (and I’m sorry if you have repressed this memory) used the Leona Lewis song “My Hands” over the final cutscene, thus undoing all Masashi Hamauzu’s good work in creating an otherwise delicate and atmospheric score. Consequently, anything Zur, Schnur, and Jack Joseph Puig (who will mix the track) come up with will sound good by comparison.

That said, there is every likelihood that the track will be good in its own right, and Florence Welch’s ethereal vocals seem like a good fit with the Dragon Age universe.

If you’re curious, you can already hear samples of Inon Zur’s score over at SoundCloud. If you’re somewhere where you can’t listen to music, “Hawke Family Theme” features a lot of icy strings whereas “Qunari on the Rise” sounds like a cross between Bear McCreary’s tribal score for Battlestar Galactica and Howard Shore’s music for Lord of the Rings.

Part One of the game’s soundtrack will be released for purchase from your chosen digital service music provider for the princely sum of £2.00, unless you pre-order the Dragon Age II BioWare Signature Edition, in which case you will receive the full soundtrack at no additional cost.

Part One will include the following tacks:

    Hawke Family Theme
    Qunari On The Rise
    Templars
    Love Scene
    Arishok
    Tavern Music
