Who ya gonna call?

Atari Europe and Behaviour Studios can today announce the release of the latest Ghostbusters video game and their first to be released exclusively for digital download only. Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime was developed in conjunction with Sony Pictures Consumer Products and came out today on Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360 and Windows PC Download via both Steam and Atari.com. Microsoft have console exclusivity on the game for one week and then the PlayStation Network version will launch on March 30th.

The title is a retro-style twin stick shooter – which can support up to four players either locally or via online play – taking control of a bunch of rookie Ghostbusters on their first major case. The original ‘busters do appear, but they are not playable. Fans of the series will recognise familiar weapons and gadgets such as their famous Proton Packs as they travel through a host of haunted levels and face off against a variety of enemies – including several huge bosses. The team must utilise teamwork and a combination of different weapons to take down the tougher enemies. Aside from the Proton Packs, new weapons in the game include the Plasma Inductor and the Fermion Shock. There are even stages featuring a new 4WD vehicle, based on the iconic Ecto-1.

Played in a top-down view, the game mixes both retro gaming traditions and modern graphics and sound to create a whole new adventure in the well-loved Ghostbusters universe. Check out the launch trailer below:
