inFamous 2 User-Generated Content And Limited Beta Announced

by on March 2, 2011

At Godisageek we have been following the progress of inFamous 2 for some time. At the Eurogamer Expo we were impressed with what we saw, and the advancements made from the first title. Well now developers Sucker Punch have announced another brand new feature that is aiming to set their game apart from the competition. Being a sandbox game, the team wanted it to feel like the city was full of missions and opportunities to explore, and with that in mind, have added a feature to allow for user-generated content to be integrated into the title.

Players will be able to build their own missions and share them with other gamers around the world. Allowing players access to character sets, creatures from the main game and all of the props they will have seen in a regular playthrough, level builders will be able to make stages as close to the authentic originals as they like. But the options are also there to use to level editor to make the game however you want it. The options to bend and shape what abilities protagonist Cole possesses can put limitations into your mission – or open up even more possibilities. You can even change the genre of inFamous 2 if you so feel. The stage editor will be able to handle platforming, racing and stealth missions – so Solid Snake, eat your heart out.

There are no limits to the users choices – their imagination is key. The missions can be as simple as a mini-game or as complex as a whole city-wide chase. And once built, uploading to the PlayStation Network is easy and they will pop up on the city map like any regular mission – sorted by creator and ratings given by other users. Sucker Punch will even feature missions they particularly like or that achieve high ratings on their site and the inFamous network.

There will also be a limited public beta of inFAMOUS 2 user generated content editor that will begin in early April. More details of that will be announced soon, but check out the new trailer below to see how it will work:

inFAMOUS 2 is due out this year exclusively for PlayStation 3. You can read Godisageek Staff Writer Tony Windebank’s hands-on impressions of the game here. Watch out for news on the limited beta on March 14th at infamousthegame.com.
