Blizzard Delay Diablo III, Will Release in Early 2012

by on September 23, 2011

Blizzard have today announced that their upcoming clicktatstic dungeon crawler, Diablo III will be delayed until 2012. The Developer have always had a “sterling record” when it comes to meeting release dates but will re-adopt the philosophy of “it’s done when it’s done” for their upcoming Diablo title.

“With every game we make, the temptation is always very strong to launch as soon as possible. However, we didn’t put so many years of work into Diablo III to release a game that was almost ready,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment. “The beta test is going very well, and we look forward to making the most of the extra time we’re taking to deliver an experience that lives up to our vision for the game and the expectations of our players. Next year is going to be an incredibly busy one for Blizzard, and we hope an incredibly fun one for Blizzard gamers.”

Blizzard will use the extra time to extend the Beta period and hope to iron out any bugs and/or design flaws.

On the face of it the delay is bad news, no one wants to wait longer for a highly anticipated game. On the bright side the decision to delay reaffirms Blizzards release philosophy of “it’s done when it’s done” which is to say that a game will only be released when it is suitable for consumption.
