No Change Required – Midway Arcade App Lands on iOS TodayWarner Bros. and Midway are bringing back the old school today with the release of Midway Arcade for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. Midway arcade lets you take a little piece of that old school arcade magic with you where ever you go. I’m talking about the games, not the sticky floor or that scary man in the change booth.

The headline games in this mobile arcade app are:

  • Spy Hunter: Race down a freeway in an armed sports car and destroy enemies while protecting civilian vehicles;
  • Rampage: Reduce the city to rubble as gigantic monsters George (a King-Kong-like gorilla), Lizzie (a Godzilla-like dinosaur/lizard), and Ralph (a giant werewolf);
  • Defender: Defeat waves of invading aliens while protecting astronauts in this 2D shooting game;
  • Joust: While riding a flying ostrich, fight to defeat enemy knights riding buzzards;

Yep, ride a flying ostrich and kill knights riding buzzards, you just don’t see that enough these days, right? These proven classics sit alongside what are being described as ‘skill games’ by Midway, namely Pool, Air Hockey, Roll Ball and Basketball. Not a bad package for 69p then, and the fun won’t end there with the added option of purchasing add on game packs, so you could be adding further classics Gauntlet (red valkyrie is about to die!), Total Carnage and Wizard of War to your collection for a further 69p.

The app is well presented, with the games being selected by finding the relevant arcade cabinet in a virtual arcade, you can even collect virtual tickets to exchange for virtual prizes. Lovely. I wonder if they have any of that fart putty stuff? I loved that.

If you are looking to relive a little more of those arcade glory days, our very own Jason Hendricks wrote a fantastic article about old school arcade culture, give it a read by clicking here.
