XCOM: Enemy Unknown – Video Preview

If you’ve been paying attention to our recent previews, you’ll have noticed that we rather loved XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

However, the game is so huge in scope, with so many different mechanics, that we thought it would be prudent to show you them, and explain how some of them worked, in a couple of videos.

This particular footage is taken from a non-final Windows PC preview build, and we’re using a wired Xbox 360 controller, for simplicity sake. Other than that, all you need to know is that these videos comes with a warning; there are no spoilers whatsoever, but you will immediately end up pre-ordering the game after seeing this footage. Enjoy!

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is due to be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC in North America on October 9, with the European release following shortly after on October 12.

Thanks for the heads up mate, that’s been fixed now. Watch away! :P

    Thanks for the videos.

Watched part 1 and it is a very good presentation of all facilities, that I have seen so far in press demos…

I even had a chance to take a glimpse at the foundry, which is very nice. One question to the foundry use.

Is the foundry upgrade permanent for all weapons/items of selected type or are those one offs, similar to your regular weapon productions?

Part 2 is interesting… that’s a lot of alien types on a one mission… Was it a scripted event, or just random UFO interception, which ended up with such diversity of aliens?

If I can recall, it was a random UFO mission.

    Hi chap,
In the first video, I notice there are 7 or 8 (shown) accent choices for your soldiers. Could you tell me if they are ALL American accents, or whether you noticed other accents in there such as British etc.
In the recently released demo, it looks as if there are only 4 or 5 voice options and all of them appear to be American accents. As a Brit, and also seeing as there are flags of non-American countries adorning many of the recruits, it would be nice to see a bit of variation on the in-game squaddie accents.
    Cheers!

I know it’s going to sound ridiculous – but if you do have any info on it, I’d appreciate it – as it may actually be the difference between me keeping my pre-order or cancelling it on principle! If they’ve gone to all the trouble of having country flags for soldiers, you would have hoped they’d not have been lazy by just giving Yank accents for all!

All of the voices in my preview build are American sounding, sorry!

  • Karl Collier

That’s awfully disappointing. 7 male American voices? Surely two would have done with the rest being different nationalities *sigh* annoyed. May have to turn the voice feature off or hope that someone mods them in!

The Steam Trailer and the above Gameplay Video seem to be of two entirely different Games, but either way it looks like an interesting Strategy Game, well worth playing

I’ve not seen the steam trailer, been too busy!

Hopefully the video shows the game in a good light though :-)

I don’t think you tend to notice too much, as you’re so engaged in the battles as you play – you barely notice them chatting away!
