Painkiller: Hell & Damnation New Screenshots and Collector's Edition RevealedHell-flavoured first person shooter Painkiller was originally developed by Polish outfit People Can Fly (now a subsidiary of Epic Games and most recently of Bulletstorm fame) in 2004. In it you play Daniel Garner, a happily married man who is killed alongside his wife Catherine in a road accident, and subsequently cast as Heaven’s Hitman, charged to kill four of Lucifer’s General’s to earn his place alongside his wife in Heaven.

Fast-paced, ballsy and loud, Painkiller went down the Doom / Quake road of game design, hurling hideous baddies at you and giving you an arsenal of meaty boomsticks with which to “purify” them. The story is great, full of twists and double-crossings and spread across a handful of disparate time zones including Medieval Europe, Babylon and modern America.

Well now Austria-based publishers Nordic Games have announced Painkiller: Hell & Damnation, a HD remake of People Can Fly’s shooter. The extra content and conversion leg-work has been done by developers Farm 51, a team containing several members of the original Painkiller development line-up. Along with these new screenshots (see the gallery, below), Nordic Games have also revealed details about the Collector’s Edition, which will include stickers, a set of “postcards from hell”, a making-of DVD, an in-game tarot card that will grant a Single Player Power-Up, an exclusive multiplayer skin and ten songs from the thrashy soundtrack.
