Sonic The Hedgehog is Coming Back To Consoles in 2013

Sonic The Hedgehog is Coming Back To Consoles in 2013There was a time when the blue blur was an icon, a trendsetter, a central figure in the world of video games. Now, he’s the butt of many jokes. But, he’s obviously still a hot property in SEGA’s eyes. My Nintendo News has reported on an interview where SEGA’s European head of brand licensing Sissel Henno mentioned that big things are planned for the pacey mammal. In the interview with Toys n’ Playthings, Henno said;

“Over the next year there will be a big focus on the expansion of [Sonic licensed] toy distribution across Europe. Similarly, we will also be growing the apparel, publishing and stationary categories. We will have several new digital titles launching as well as a new boxed game, so there will be plenty of opportunities to link marketing campaigns across games and merchandise.”

Several Sonic titles next year, eh? How many of those will be an old-school, 2D platformer? Or maybe I’m just wishing for the impossible. Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 had its flaws and wasn’t exactly what people were hoping for in the latest 2D Sonic game. However, Sonic Generations taught us that there is life in the old ‘hog.
