Spike TV Announce VGA 2012 NomineesThey are considered to be the Academy Awards of the video game world, when really they are the MTV Movie Awards. Yes, the VGAs are back in early December and American TV network Spike TV has announced the developers, games, actors and characters that have received nods. Some may surprise you, most probably won’t.

With seven nominations each, Borderlands 2, Halo 4 and Journey are the frontrunners. Assassin’s Creed III is just behind with six, whilst The Walking Dead, Dishonored and Mass Effect 3 all have five nominations each.As there are quite a few categories, here’s a few to get you up to speed. The full list of categories and nominees fighting it out for each ugly trophy can be found on the awards’ official site.

One of the VGAs most notable points of the show are the trailers that air there. This year, viewers can feast their eyes on world premieres of South Park: The Stick of Truth, Gears of War: Judgment and Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us. As per the norm, there’s bound to be some surprises, as well as more announced prior to event itself.

For those that don’t live in the States, GameTrailers.com and Spike.com will be airing the ceremony live and for the first time ever, Xbox LIVE Gold subs will be able to watch the whole thing happen through their 360s. At this point in time, its only been confirmed for the US, but Spike has said that more countries will be announced at a later date.

The tenth annual VGAs will be taking place on Friday, December 7 and the coolest man on the planet, Samuel L. Jackson, will be the host. On top of that, Linkin Park and Tenacious D have been confirmed to be playing at it – so, y’know…if you like them, you’ll be happy.

Who picks up the awfully tacky prestigious trophy, then? Will you be watching, or have you been burnt on the awards ceremony before? Let us know in the comments!
