Is There a New Uncharted Game in the Works? Well, Yes and No…

Is There a New Uncharted Game in the Works? Well, Yes and No...A new Uncharted game appears to be in development – but will it be the Uncharted that we know and love?

According to gaming website IGN.com, Uncharted: Fight for Fortune has been “outed” by the Australian Classifications Board. As yet, very little is known besides the developer, platform and genre – which itself seems a little suspect.

Fight for Fortune is listed as a “Casino/Card” game, which just doesn’t ring true to us despite a certain amount of evidence where the classifications are concerned. Australia rates games based on six categories – Themes, Language, Sex, Nudity, Violence and Drugs – and scores each on a slider from No Impact to High Impact. The only two categories that even register are Violence and Drugs, and both only hit Low Impact.

It seems strange that a Casino game would score higher in violence and drugs than any other categories, while your average Uncharted game should register pretty highly in both language and violence. Also strange is that Fight for Fortune is listed as multiplatform, even though Sony (who are publishing the game) own the franchise and are unlikely to share it; so we can assume that multiplatform here alludes to a cross-play release on both PlayStation 3 and Vita.

Also, it’s not being developed by series creators Naughty Dog or Uncharted: Golden Abyss developers Bend (owned by Sony), but by One Loop Games, a small studio who previously worked with the Japanese giants on the Ratchet & Clank series and God of War: Betrayal.

While most of the evidence suggests that Fight for Fortune will be a casual, downloadable spin-off, it seems a very strange direction for Sony to take such an action-heavy franchise, and we can’t help but feel that either some kind of misdirection is being employed or that for whatever reason someone has the wrong end of the proverbial stick. Or maybe we just love Drake and Sully so much that we’re hoping that’s the case.

Either way, we’ll bring you more info on Uncharted: Fight for Fortune as and when it becomes available.
