As a 10th Anniversary Bonus – Go Behind the Scenes of GTA Vice City

As a 10th Anniversary Bonus - Go Behind the Scenes of GTA Vice CityGrand Theft Auto: Vice City has won many awards and plaudits over the years, but perhaps one of the most important for both Rockstar and the games industry in general was when it was named as a nominee for the ‘biggest contribution to design in 2002’ by London’s Design Museum in their annual design awards.

At that time, Rockstar put together a series of making of videos, that showed some of the intricacies that went into making their landmark game. There were three of these Design Labs video packages put together – one focusing on Animation, one on Sound and the last on City Design. Now, for the very first time these videos are being made available to the general public as a celebration of the tenth anniversary of the game – and to mark its release on Android and iOS devices.

The animation videos are the first to surface, and they cover aspects such as:

  • “Motion Capture”- a rare video showing a cutscene between Kent Paul and Tommy Vercetti going from motion-capture through to 3D model wireframe to finished product.
  • “Sketch Book” – a progression of original character sketches through to final models and now-iconic illustrations of such folks as Lance Vance, Avery Carrington, Ken Rosenberg and more.
  • “Tommy Moves”- a set of clips showing the genesis of Tommy’s animations whether jumping into a Comet sportscar, dive-kicking a biker off his chopper or running with a chainsaw…
