PlayStation 2 is Officially Done After Nearly 13 YearsThe old dog has been put to rest, worldwide. In late December, Sony confirmed that Japanese shipments of the PlayStation 2 had stopped, and now they’ve confirmed to The Guardian that they’ve stopped worldwide production of the console.

The system’s sales figures are absolutely staggering. It became the best selling video game system of all time, along with selling approximately 1.53 billion games. Some of the titles that are high up on the PS2’s list of best sellers are GTA: San Andreas, Gran Turismo 4 and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.

It’s a system that truly defined an era. With the generation after PS2, the Wii may have been the winner, but the race to the top was much tighter than the previous one. The chances are that we’ll never see such a landslide victory again.

Goodbye, PlayStation 2. May you rest in peace.

Love, everyone. X
