New Modes and Weapons Shown in The Guts of Gears – Multiplayer Video

by on February 19, 2013

Gears of War: Judgment introduces instant grenade throwing, a mid-range sniper and – brace yourself – the ability to smoothly drop from ledges. Oh my.

People Can Fly, developers of Bulletstorm and Painkiller, appear to be creating far more than a simple prequel with their first solo foray into Epic’s Gears of War franchise.

As can be seen in the video below Gears of War: Judgment features a slew of new weapons, from aggressive grenade launchers to helpful stim and beacon grenades, that should make Judgment a smarter game.

Alongside this the game is packing new modes. While the addition of a Free-For-All brawl sounds like a spot of box ticking, Overrun, the human controlled COG versus human controller Locust mode, sounds rather excellent.

Throw in more dynamic looking maps and the ability to jump on foes from above and Judgment is looking like a far more dynamic take on the Gears template. Whether this has fans up in arms or is seen as a welcome evolution is yet to be seen, but either way it’s excellent to see People Can Fly experimenting within the franchise instead of simply regurgitating something by-the-numbers.

Gears of War: Judgment will be released on March 22 in Europe and March 19 in North America for Xbox 360
