Next-Gen Just Cause 3 Heavily Hinted in Avalanche Boss’ CV

Next-Gen-Just-Cause-3-HintedAvalanche Studios co-founder and CEO Christofer Sundberg has listed a ‘Sandbox Action Game’ on his LinkedIn profile.

CVG also note the phrase ‘new instalment in a very well-known game series’, alongside a confirmed publisher in Square Enix. It’s quite hard to munch on those facts and not settle on Just Cause 3.

Last November CVG reported that the company was returning its Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 development kits, showing a picture of the boxed units and commenting that, “We’re shipping ’em back. Going next-gen on your asses.”

Not the most charming way of putting it, but it adds credence to any future Avalanche titles being designed specifically with Next-Gen machines in mind. Add three and four together, and a next-gen Just Cause 3 makes the most logical answer.

Square Enix also seem keen to keep the franchise in players’ minds, with leading man Rico Rodriquez making an appearance as a DLC costume in last year’s better-than-anyone-thought-it-would-be Sleeping Dogs.

Sundberg’s profile also lists an “open-world action game” based on “a well-known movie license,” which Giant Bomb have linked to Mad Max: Fury Road, though that is largely speculation.

Just Cause 2 was a massive, delightfully anarchic treat – I particularly enjoyed grappling onto propane tanks and launching Rico skyward, waiting until the last second to detach and parachute to earth – and my mind is having serious, but welcome, trouble trying to comprehending the sort of scope the Swedish developers could achieve with next-gen machines.
