Ninja Gaiden: Sigma 2 Plus – New Gameplay Details and Screens

by on February 12, 2013

Team Ninja and Tecmo have released new information regarding upcoming Vita-exclusive sequel, Ninja Gaiden: Sigma 2 Plus.

Hot on the heels of the Wii U’s Razor’s Edge (the actually-pretty-good-considering-the-original-version port of Ninja Gaiden 3), Team Ninja announced the follow up to Vita launch title Sigma Plus. Ninja Gaiden: Sigma 2 Plus is a port of the PlayStation 3 game, Ninja Gaiden: Sigma 2, itself a sequel to the enhanced port of the PS3-only Ninja Gaiden: Sigma, which is a port of the last-gen Xbox-exclusive Ninja Gaiden. If you’re confused, just think of this henceforth as Ninja Gaiden: Vita 2 – it’s way easier.

A little while ago we brought you details of the new multiplayer modes, and this time we’re spoiling you further with info regarding the newly-integrated Hero mode. This is basically a safety net mode that will activate “temporary advantages” when Ryu’s health is low, such as auto-block, auto-evade and increased damage. It’s a nice addition for more casual players, sure, but we’re not entirely certain that what this once-hardcore franchise needs is more simplification.

We also have new details regarding Ryu’s weaponry, and are pleased to announce a decent selection of polished-up death-dealers from the get-go, following the examples of Sigma Plus and Ninja Gaiden 2 as opposed to NG3 which took them all away. Sigma 2 Plus will feature the now-legendary Dragon Sword alongside such beautiful creations as the Eclipse Scythe and the Vigoorian Flail. Additional playable characters Ayane, Rachel and Momiji will also be armed with their own signature weapons (short swords, a naginata and the rather brutal Inferno Hammer, respectively). Check out the gallery below.

Ninja Gaiden: Sigma 2 Plus will be available on the PlayStation Vita on March 1.
