EA Opens New DICE Studio to Focus on Star Wars License

by on May 15, 2013

DICE’s general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson has been speaking with the WSJ (via Gamasutra) about EA’s new new studio in LA that will be developing new Star Wars titles.

The Los Angeles developer has taken on some of the team at Danger Close (Medal of Honor) will grow to employ 60 people by 2013’s end. Troedsson also noted that opening up a new DICE studio in this area will place them near one of their major rivals – Treyarch:

“There is an extreme talent pool over [there] that we want a part of. It’s no secret that our main competitor is there.”

After last week’s announcement of Electronic Arts’ deal with Disney, there has been some speculation about what the publisher would do with the Star Wars license. DICE, Visceral and BioWare were all mentioned as developers that would be working on games in that universe. DICE LA will be producing Star Wars titles with Frostbite 3 – the same engine that Battlefield 3 runs on.
