Spiritual Successor To Road Rash Reaches Kickstarter Goal

It feels like I’ve been crying out for a sequel to classic Mega Drive game Road Rash, for ages now. Earlier this year, even one of the minds behind the game wanted a new game in this long-forgotten franchise.

Well it’s not officially a new Road Rash game, Dark Sea Interactive’s Road Redemption is a spiritual successor to the racing brawler, and the subject of a recently successful Kickstart campaign.

Reaching a final total of $173,803 (although it’s still possible to donate via PayPal for stretch goals including Xbox 360 and Oculus Rift support), the game will make it’s way to Wii U and PC.

Set in “a Nightmare version of the American Midwest”, Road Redemption features motorcycle racing with some good old fashioned fisticuffs, as punches, counters and parries are necessary to ensure you cross the finish line first. A selection of different modes are available, not just races; including missions where you have to escape the cops, or even take down a specific racer.

Fingers crossed this game turns out as good as it sounds. If you don’t know the greatness of Road Rash, Robin and myself took a look at the game recently on The GodisaGeek Retrocast.

Road Redemption is due to be released sometime in 2014, for PC & Wii U.
