Twitch TV App Comes to US Based Xbox 360 Owners

by on May 14, 2013

The face of Xbox, Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb, has confirmed over on his blog that from today, Xbox 360 users can download Twitch TV to their consoles.

Seen as THE video streaming service for video games, Twitch boasts over 800,000 users streaming gameplay and over 34 million watching those 800,000 people online at Twitch.tv.

The Xbox Twitch app will allow Xbox Live Gold subscribers in the US to watch 300 of the most popular streams, or search channels via their popularity or via games themselves.

After the May 21 Xbox Reveal event, Twitch are hosting a special broadcast that will be live at 3pm ET/12am PT. The important thing to note here is that all of the sharing functionality we’ve seen on the PS3 so far has been with UStream. Nothing concrete has been announced, but with this announcement, it looks like Twitch has gotten into bed with Microsoft.

If – and that’s a very important IF – Microsoft do have some form of exclusivity deal with Twitch and streaming content directly from the console, Xbox Durango will be far more attractive to many people that already have a large following on the service.
