DLC Plans Detailed for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified

Due out on August 23rd, The Bureau has me interested because I adored XCOM: Enemy Unknown (and our review of the iOS version is in the works, by the way), so anything with “XCOM” in its title has my attention.

Hopefully we’ll get a chance to get some hands-on with it soon, but for now we’ll have to be content with bringing you the first details on the DLC. First thing to note is that the opening salvo is exclusive to Xbox 360, with packs after that first one being released on PS3 and PC as well. The DLC will expand the declassified origin story of the XCOM organisation.

Gamers who pre-order the game through the participating retailers will get a bonus campaign called “Codebreakers”, which tasks Special Agent Carter (and his squad, obviously!) with making contact with a top secret government facility that has gone radio-silent. If you pre-order through GAME, you’ll also get the Light Plasma Pistol as an exclusive in-game item. The Light Plasma Pistol has a rapid rate of fire, giving players the edge, apparently.

“We take great pride in our track record of providing high-quality post-release content for our games,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “We will continue to expand the XCOM universe by telling original stories set in the paranoia-drenched Cold War era of The Bureau.”

“The alternate 1962 universe that we’ve created for The Bureau is vast and there are many more stories to tell about the early days of XCOM,” said Morgan Gray, development director at 2K Marin. “We’re excited that our stories will provide a new perspective on the war effort, much like how our critically acclaimed Minvera’s Den DLC for BioShock 2 allowed us to present a unique perspective of Rapture.”
