Ellen Page Accuses The Last of Us Of “Ripping Off” Her Look

by on June 24, 2013

Ellen Page last night accused Naughty Dog of ripping off her likeness for the part of Ellie in The Last of Us.

Page, who stars in fellow PlayStation 3-exclusive Beyond: Two Souls later this year, made the comments in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) conducted last night.

She said:

“I guess I should be flattered that they ripped off my likeness, but I am actually acting in a video game called Beyond Two Souls, so it was not appreciated.”

The look of Ellie was changed early last year following repeated comparisons with the actress and the assumption that Page would be playing the part.

It is also likely that the change came about when Page was cast in Quantic Dreams’ Beyond.

Around the same time last night Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann took to Twitter to praise actress Ashley Johnson. He said:

“Ellie from The Last of Us was perfectly played by @TheVulcanSalute. No one could’ve done a better job. Please go follow her and retweet.”

Since it’s release nine days ago The Last of Us has proven a huge success in terms of both sales and critical praise. A lot of said praise has been lavished on the performances of both Johnson and Troy Baker, who plays the game’s other protagonist Joel.

Perhaps Page is right to be slightly miffed but she also doesn’t have the monopoly on sassy teenagers… which begs an obvious question.

Who would win a fight between Juno and Ellie? Let us know in the comments below… (it’s obviously Ellie). Read our review of The Last of Us here.
