Kinect For Xbox One Will Scan QR Codes

by on July 2, 2013

When Microsoft revealed that the Xbox One would come boxed with the new version of Kinect, and that it would be almost integral to the machine, a lot of gamers were shocked and outraged – why should they be forced to use Kinect?

We have since found out that the Kinect motion sensor may not be as integral to the functionality of the system as we first thought. First we heard news that the Kinect will function as a headset replacement for users – hence no headset being bundled in with the console.

And now Microsoft have revealed that the new Kinect will be able to recognise and read QR codes -which will now feature on Xbox Live activation cards etc, so that gamers will not have to type in the exhaustive 25-digit codes every time they want to redeem something. This was confirmed by Corporate Vice President of Xbox Marc Whitten on twitter:

This will certainly help speed things up for gamers, and make the activation process a lot less irritating. It will be interesting to see what other new features and innovations that will be possible with the new Kinect.
