Petition Started To End Nintendo Region Locking

by on July 10, 2013

Region locking has historically been a talking points when it comes to gaming. For years, large gaps between territorial releases, inferior PAL versions and Japan/USA-only releases have caused many to import pricier consoles and software to enjoy the games they love.

With Microsoft and Sony announcing that their respective next-gen consoles will be region free, all eyes were on Nintendo to follow suit. However, they aren’t playing ball – The Wii U currently has a region lock, and for the first time on a Nintendo handheld; the Nintendo 3DS is also locked.

Recent discussions on the subject has spurred one British gamer to start a petition to see if Nintendo can be persuaded to change their minds. Josh Stevens, has started the petition here, and is currently sporting over 21,000 signatures. If you believe that region locking on Nintendo consoles should end, then point your browsers there and get signing.
