Killer Instinct Pricing Structure Announced

by on August 20, 2013

At Gamescom today during the Microsoft presentation, Double Helix Games – the development team behind the Killer Instinct revival on Xbox One – confirmed that popular brawler Chief Thunder would be joining the previously announced fighters Jago, Sabrewulf and Glacius in the new lineup.

His inclusion had been teased back at E3, but it was finally revealed officially today in an introduction video at the show. The new Killer Instinct game will be free to download with one free playable character available at the launch of the new Xbox One console. The pricing schemes for the title have now been nailed down, with additional characters costing $4.99 / £3.99 / €4.99 each.

There will be additional packages, that will see players buying multiple fighters at a reduced price. These are as follows:

Option 1: Combo Breaker Pack –– Save 50 percent instantly by purchasing the Combo Breaker pack, which includes the first 8 characters (6 at launch, plus 2 characters before their official post-launch release) for $19.99 / £16.99 / €19.99.

Option 2: Ultra Edition – The Ultra Edition delivers the best value for “Killer Instinct” fans. Available for $39.99 / £34.99 / €39.99, the Ultra Edition includes:

  • The first 8 characters (6 at launch, plus 2 characters before their official post-launch release)
  • Character accessory packs
  • Character costumes
  • The original “Killer Instinct” arcade game

Although the game is being touted as free-to-play, in essence players will only get a trial version of the title with an individual fighter included. But this variety of packages and purchase options available mean that Xbox One gamers will be able to pick and choose which characters – and which deal – will suit them best.

This is a welcome choice, as some gamers won’t want the complete package, and can therefore get a cut-price game, whereas others can go all out – and still get all of the characters for less than twenty pounds, which is still a bargain price for a full beat-em-up title.
