Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z to receive Mighty No. 9 DLC

by on December 15, 2013

Mighty No. 9 may be barely more than a funded Kickstarter project, but main character Beck is already taking invitations to appear as a guest in other titles.

Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z is a shlock-y Grindhouse spin-off of the Ninja Gaiden series that focuses on carving up zombies and seeking revenge against Ryu Hayabusa.

The game is directed by Keiji Inafune, the same mind behind the upcoming Mega-Man-but-not-Mega-Man, Mighty No. 9.

This is hardly the first time Inafune has included such crossovers. Mega-Man paraphernalia made frequent appearances in the director’s Dead Rising franchise, with the robot boy’s blaster being one of the ultimate unlockables. Dead Rising also included Ghouls and Ghosts references.

Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z also parodies itself with an arcade mode, visible in the screenshots below, which includes pixelated cutscenes and static camera angles, reminiscent of old school brawlers such as Streets of Rage and Final Fight.
