New Arkham Origins DLC Hints At A Mister Freeze Appearance

While Arkham Origins may not have set the world alight like it’s predecessors, the third Arkham game still has it’s fans. Which is good, because some recent tweets from the official Arkham Twitter account hints at the subject matter of the next piece of story-based DLC, due very soon:

I’ll leave it to our resident comic expert, Martin Baker, to explain what these pictures are likely to mean:

It seems fairly obvious given the ice, but it could be an introduction to Dr. Victor Fries (A.K.A. Mister Freeze). If I’m remembering correctly, he was introduced into the New 52 (DC’s recent relaunch of all their comic series) during a party that was being held in honour of Bruce Wayne, which could be the ‘Humanitarian of the Year’ reference.

Also, in the Batman: The Animated Series, Mister Freeze is introduced at a humanitarian party, only not one being held for Bruce Wayne. Here’s the Wikipedia entry:

“According to flashbacks, cryogenic scientist Victor Fries was working for the company Gothcorp and embezzled funds for an experiment in order to save his terminally ill wife Nora Fries by cryogenically freezing her until a cure could be found. However, Gothcorp CEO Ferris Boyle (voiced by Mark Hamill) broke into the lab with guards, demanding an end be put to the experiment. When Fries desperately grabbed a security guard’s pistol and aimed it at Boyle, the corrupt CEO kicked him into a table of chemical beakers filled with cryogenic substance, leaving him to die. He survived, but was severely mutated by the substances. Unable to live outside subzero conditions, he must wear a cryogenic suit to survive, which also triples his strength. In the present day, he now calls himself “Mr. Freeze”, and steals the parts for a freezing machine he wishes to build and use in his vendetta against Boyle. This leads to his first confrontation with Batman, whom he traps in a block of ice. Freeze leaves the trapped Batman in his hideout, confronting Boyle at the Gothcorp Humanitarian Party and freezing him up to the waist.”

It’s also worth noting that that particular episode of Batman: The Animated series was called ‘Heart of Ice’. I know the heart at the top of the award is probably a gem of some sort but it looks suspiciously like ice 😉

It seems that if Martin’s right, we could be seeing an appearance by Mister Freeze. Hopefully, we’ll find out very soon!
