Killer Instinct Patch Changes Free Character, Increases 90’s Cheese

by on January 7, 2014

Double Helix have issued the first major patch for Killer Instinct which addresses numerous bugs, tackles some balance issues, swaps Jago for Sabrewulf, and adds a pair of alternate ‘classic’ costumes.

First, the boring stuff. You can see the full patch notes here but the most glaring fixes and alterations include re-addressing the point gain/loss from ranked matches, #5 costumes can be purchased correctly, those that haven’t purchased anything now play as Sabrewulf rather than Jago, and characters have had some move properties addressed.

Lots of attacks are now being classed as Openers within the KI framework, which means more combo potential, but a heightened risk of combo breakers.

Then there are those classic costumes. Orchid’s classic ‘frightfully tight’ costume has been re-created in all its skin hugging glory. It even comes with its own unlockable accessories, such as leg warmers and a ludicrous generals hat.

Then there’s Rave Ninja Jago. This costume doesn’t seem like it was meant to be added with this patch, or at the very least it wasn’t meant to be available, but people have worked out how to select the Ninja’s worryingly tattered, curtain haired ‘classic’ look. Check out the video below to see the trick in action.

Jago is so 90’s, people say that one of his unlockable accessories will be a Keyboard (instrument) with which to attack people. Radical. Can we get a Wayne’s World announcer to go with him?
