Game Launches Pre-Owned Focused GAMEtronics Store’s

by on February 7, 2014

GAME has today launched a new sub-brand known as GAMEtronics. The two new stores, one in Lincoln and one in Cambridge, specialise in selling pre-owned items, ranging form the traditional games and consoles right through to TV’s, digital cameras and computers.

The GAMEtronics stores will sell new products but pre-owned is the main focus. In a statement given to Eurogamer a GAME spokesperson had this to say about the new brand.

“Gamers can now trade in all kinds of tech devices, from consoles and software to tablets, phones, laptops, cameras, TV’s and sat navs,”

“[This] makes purchasing new releases, digital content and in particular the next gen consoles even more affordable. GAMEtronics is a great way for even more gamers to take the leap into the next generation of gaming.”

I took a trip down to the Lincoln branch of GAMEtronics today and unfortunately was left somewhat unimpressed. The selection of games and consoles was not an issue, but there was a distinct lack of any other electronics. There were quite a few phones and tablets, but only a couple of laptops, no TV’s and no other notable devices. Although I did spot a pair of pre-owned Call of Duty branded glasses, (yours for only £14.99 if you are interested). I’m sure the store will get a more diverse selection of kit over the coming weeks, but currently there isn’t much different to a standard GAME store.

The store had also undergone a slight redevelopment, making what was quite a small store even smaller. Large glass cabinets line one side of the store whilst shelves of games line the other. Small stands in the center of the thin but long building housed more games, advertisements and some merchandise. The redesign made the store feel compact and difficult to move around, and the abundance of staff milling about doing very little didn’t help.

Just some food for thought: the CEX store that is located right next to the Lincoln GAMEtronics had twice as many people in it when I took a look today.

Do you think Gametronics is a good idea, or is it guaranteed to go the same way as GameStation? Sound off in the comments below.
