GT Academy European Race Camp Takes Place next Week

by on July 22, 2014

This year’s GT Academy kicks off next week with the European Race Camp, where 42 of the best Gran Turismo 6 gamers from twelve countries will battle it out to show they can be a race-car driver.

International heats will follow, made up of competitors from India, Thailand, Mexico, Australia and the Middle East, before the American close off the Race Camps.

The Camps take place at Silverstone, which hosts the British stage of the Formula One World Tournament. The winners will join the Nissan Driver Development Programme, hoping to take part in the Dubai24 Hours Race in January, and perhaps become an official NISMO athlete.

As if to underline the potential of the competition, last weekend former GT Academy graduate Jann Mardenborough won the GP3 race at Hockenheim, hours before the F1 race took place at the track.

“The training and support we get after winning GT Academy is amazing,” said Jann. “For me to get to this level in single seaters just shows how good the programme is. It’s not a case of winning GT Academy and just going racing at all. They push us hard, every day. I keep learning and progressing all the time and today’s result proves that it works.”
