Wizards of the Coast have today revealed Magic Duels: Origins, a successor to the popular Duels of the Planeswalkers franchise.

The game, which is a Magic: The Gathering title, will be free-to-play and is launching this summer to Xbox One, Steam, and iPad, with PS4 version following afterwards.

The game will focus on story telling, as it’ll launch with a new story from the upcoming Magic Origins set, and will update regularly afterwards with new content. Existing game modes, such as Two-Headed Giant, will also be returning.

Lead designer of the game, Drew Nolosco, had this to say:

“This upcoming release is unlike anything we’ve ever done. players will experience the origin stories of our five most iconic Planeswalkers through immersive gameplay. We’ve also listened to our players. Two-Headed Giant is back! Taking it a step further, everything is earnable, making the game truly free-to-play. Magic Duels is the perfect way to start your journey into the world’s best strategy game.”

Features of the new game include:

  • Improved deck builder, with intuitive deck construction guidance.
  • First ever playable Plansewalker cards.
  • Solo battle mode.
  • Expanded multiplayer options.
  • Quest system with new challenges every week.
  • 100% of content earnable through playing the game.
  • New Skill Quest tutorial system.

The game is set for a July 2015 release.
