Aliens: Colonial Marines has been completely revamped by modders

The glitchy nightmare that was Aliens: Colonial Marines has been given a complete overhaul by modders, who have balanced out many of the game’s overwhelming issues in a bid to make playing it a more enjoyable experience.

Shared on NeoGAF, the mod apparently lets you enjoy the game “how it should have been when it came out”. The mod notes say that the game has been “heavily balanced and play-tested for exciting, suspenseful and most importantly, FUN game play”, with the titular Aliens get an AI overhaul, “fixing their behavior and mechanics to make them truly terrifying foes to face, dramatically shifting the tone of the entire campaign.” The AI’s decision making time has been increased by an incredulous 500%, making Rangers “quickly reposition to continue their barrage”. All of their stats have been rebalanced so they are “extremely agile and move swiftly around the cluttered levels.”

The visuals of the game have also been greatly improved, adding more dynamic shadows and particle effects to increase along with anisotropic filtering and higher quality sharpening filter for distant textures. The mod also removes the compatibility file of the original, defaulting all graphics cards––regardless of model––to the maximum quality settings available.

This is only a sliver of the notes available on the mod’s official page, hosted by ModDB. If you’re looking to try the mod out, you should be able to grab Aliens: Colonial Marines for next to nothing via digital services, and the mod is free to download. If the price is still too high, wait for a sale; it is usually one of the first to get its price slashed.

Thanks, NeoGAF.
