Want to win $100k? Are you good at hitting balls with cars? Then you might be interested in this new esports proposition.

Rocket League developers Psyonix have teamed up with the sports guys over at NBC to bring us a 2v2 Rocket League Tournament to be streamed via online streaming platform FACEIT and later through NBC’s sports channels. The tournament will be divided up between NBC’s eight Regional Sports Networks as well as additional open qualifiers in Europe, with these being broadcast through FACEIT. The people who make it through will go to in-studio matches broadcast through NBC themselves.

FACEIT will provide their expertise in broadcasting esports to NBC allowing them to provide top-tier coverage to the Rocket League community and NBC fans, says Michelle Attisani of FACEIT:

NBC Sports has a long legacy of bringing engaging sport action and storylines to viewers. FACEIT is proud to work alongside NBC Sports and Psyonix to provide the Rocket League community a unique opportunity to be involved and engaged from a grassroots level. By combining traditional sports and esports expertise, we can create an exciting new viewing experience for sports fans, esports fans and all fans of competitive action. This will build on the excellent work Psyonix has done to date establishing Rocket League as a premier community and competitive title.

Josh Watson from Psyonix’s esports division is very excited about bringing the game to NBC:

Our Rocket League esports ecosystem is thriving and we are excited to expand to the NBC Sports audience. Rocket League is an easy-to-understand game, which makes it the perfect introduction to esports for fans of all backgrounds and ages.

I know a few people who would probably be up for this, although I doubt I’ll be brushing up on my air-shot skills. The tournament starts on July 22nd with a series of open qualifiers. Get practicing.
