FIFA 11 Hands On Impressions

FIFA is one of the most successful football (soccer) games of all time, but only in recent years has the game truly deserved the title with the introduction of some revolutionary gameplay changes such as 360 degree dribbling and the be a pro game mode. Whilst the foundations have been laid with FIFA 08, 09 and 10, fans feel that there is room for some much needed improvement and are looking for FIFA 11 to deliver.

Last week, myself and Asim were invited down to a special FIFA 11 community event at the Emirates Stadium in London to play the code which was on offer at Gamescom 2010. What did we think of the game and the much talked about new features? Read on to find out.

A Week In Gaming With Asim Tanvir

That’s right folks,  it’s my turn to step into the “a week in gaming with…..” spotlight once again. This week, I will be looking back at my trip to Cologne where I attended Gamescom 2010 and talking about a particular “topic” that reared its ugly head here on GodisaGeek.com this past week. If you glanced at the comments on Calvin’s Call of Duty Black Ops impressions or our Castlevania: Lords of Shadow preview then you will know exactly what I am talking about. If you haven’t, well, I suggest you sit back, relax and (once again) enjoy a week in gaming with…..ME!

Madden NFL 11 Review

Game: Madden NFL 11

Developer: EA Tiburon

Publisher: EA Sports

Available on: Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, Wii, PS2 and PSP (Xbox 360 version reviewed)

Every year, like the fanatical Miami Dolphins supporter we have huge expectations that our team will inevitably reach the playoffs and then the Superbowl. No matter how unrealistic these expectations are for such a mediocre team, we can but dream. This is the feeling every year for American football fans the world over whenever the yearly iteration of Madden NFL comes out. The expectations are so huge in fact those real life players even have issues with their own ratings within the game. As documented last year when the Seattle Seahawks wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh even called out the EA studios as to why he was only been given an overall rating of 91… so you can see, high stakes are at play.

Gamescom 2010: Call of Duty Black Ops Impressions

Being a huge Modern Warfare fan, my first stop at Gamescom 2010 had to be the Activision/Blizzard area. Myself and Asim went into the Black Ops booth with such high hopes…..not expectations, but hopes! As a gamer I really want Black Ops to offer me more of that Modern Warfare 2 goodness, but as a critic I’m a bit more sceptical about their efforts.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Preview

Myself and Asim were invited down to the Konami offices in London not so long ago to get hands on with MercurySteam’s new take on the Castlevania franchise. For those of you who haven’t been following the title, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is a third person action/adventure game and a reboot for the series. Hideo Kojima has had a role in its development (albeit a small one), so naturally Asim and I both had high hopes for the title but did it meet our expectations or were we left with an unwanted pain in our necks? Read on for the full preview.

Gamescom 2010: Medal of Honor – Hands-On Impressions

Three years, that is how long it has been since the last Medal of Honor game was released. It’s no real surprise though because, with all due respect, the series had hit a rather large brick wall. The last game in the series (Airborne) had solid shooting mechanics but was a little dull, especially when you compared it to the likes of Modern Warfare.

As most of you will know, the series is now getting a reboot. The creatively titled Medal of Honor will take the series into a more modern setting (the 2001 war in Afghanistan) where gamers will (mostly) play from the viewpoint of “Tier One Operators”. Realism and authenticity is the name of the game, well…that is what EA keep saying anyway. The validity of their claims is a discussion for another day though. Right now, you’re here to read impressions of the “Gunfighters” mission that was playable behind closed doors at Gamescom 2010. Well, at least we hope you are anyway!
