Flight simulators are a much under-used genre these days, with only Namco Bandai and their Ace Combat series (even on the 3DS) really flying the flag (see what I did there?) in the genre.

However, Konami are entering the airfield (as opposed to a playing field, comedic genius, right?) with Birds of Steel, set for a March release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Described as “a mix of air combat and battle theatre”, Gaijin Entertainment are bringing key air battles from World War II to the home consoles, boasting over 100 planes along with single and multi-player campaigns.

Today,  they released 21 new screenshots, and of course we at GodisaGeek have them for you to view, so take a look.

Birds of Steel is set for a March release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

All it took to knock FIFA 12 off the top spot was a behemoth of an JRPG and the re-release of the biggest stealth action games of all time!

Yes, that’s right people, number one in the UK charts this week is Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIII-2. Our review of Final Fantasy XIII-2 hits the site at 11am tomorrow, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Backing up XIII-2 is Konami’s release of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, which we reviewed recently and scored a mammoth (yet worthy) 10/10. On top of that you can even check our our First Look XL of the title, in which you’ll see all the games on the disc with commentary; the works!

Before we go on, here’s an interesting statistic for you: Final Fantasy XIII-2 sold more PlayStation 3 copies than Xbox 360, but conversely, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection sold more on Xbox 360, than PlayStation 3. Furthermore, Soul Calibur V sold way more on Xbox 360 than PS3 too.

What of the rest of the charts though? Well, Battlefield 3 jumps to third, with FIFA 12 in fourth place. The magnificent Soul Calibur V enters the charts in 5th place, while the rest of the top 20 is pretty much “UK Charts by numbers”.

Next week Catherine is finally released on UK shores, so it’ll be interesting to see where that places the week after next! Go on, take a look at it!

Old school fighting game fans were happy with the news of the original Mortal Kombat games coming to PSN and now PC gamers can turn those frowns upside down too!

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have confirmed that Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection is now available to download for £6.29 via Steam, Gamestop’s Impulse, Direct2Drive, Gametap and others. Of course, the Kollection comprises of Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

These versions of the original trilogy were developed by Other Ocean, with Ed Boon and NetherRealm overseeing things. The PC edition of the Kollection will include online multiplayer, leaderboards, achievements and trophies.

If you are a user of Sony’s PlayStation Network, then over the weekend you may have had an e-mail from Sony regarding this, but it appears that Sony are changing the name of their online network.

The timing is obviously directly in line with the PlayStation Vita release, where both consoles will have updates for functionality purposes.

What is the new name, we hear you asking? Well, from now on, instead of “PlayStation Network” accounts (or PSN as most will know it), the service will be known as “Sony Entertainment Network”, or – we guess – SEN!

With Sony pushing more and more non-gaming entertainment onto our Sony gaming devices, the name change makes sense, don’t you think? For those that didn’t get the e-mail, it’s posted in full below.

On February 8, 2012, “PlayStation®Network accounts” will be renamed “Sony Entertainment Network accounts” or “SEN accounts”. This change will take effect at the same time as upcoming PlayStation®3 and PlayStation®Vita* system software updates. After you update the system software on your PS3™ or PS Vita , you will notice that “PlayStation®Network accounts” have been renamed “Sony Entertainment Network accounts”. This change will not affect the naming of “PlayStation®Network accounts” when viewed on a PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system. *PlayStation®Vita will launch from 22nd February, 2012.

This account change is a change in name only. You do not have to do anything and your username and password will not change.

This transition is based on Sony’s goal to enhance its unique digital entertainment offering. As a series of these activities Sony started last September, PlayStation®Network will be aligned with “Sony Entertainment Network”. This helps us get closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account.

Your Sony Entertainment Network account also enables use of Sony’s non-game services such as Music Unlimited, Video Store of PlayStation®Store and PlayMemories Online (previously called Personal Space) across a variety of network-connected devices.

Fans of the fighting game genre are probably well aware of Skullgirls by now. Showing off a unique art style and getting (pretty much) universal praise from anyone who has played an early build of the game, it is shaping up to be something rather special, as Rik stated in his Skullgirls preview.

This new trailer shows off some of the story mode fun that you’ll get to experience when it comes out (soon, we hope) as well as seven of the currently announced playable characters in the game.

Skullgirls doesn’t currently have a firm release date, but will be released on Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network.

Yesterday is the title of upcoming point-and-click game from Pendulo Studios – the people that brought you the Runaway trilogy which sold over a million copies. In anticipation of their latest offering, they have launched the official website for Yesterday and also have three brand new screenshots of the game.

Yesterday tells a dark tale full of twists and turns, with 4 possible endings. Throughout, you play as three different characters, including John Yesterday, who has had his memory wiped clean. You can learn more about the game over at the website.

To celebrate the retail, boxed copy launch of The Binding of Isaac, publisher Merge Games has launched a competition giving you the chance to ask Edmund McMillen (creator of The Binding of Isaac) any question you like, and to also win a copy of The Binding of Isaac – The Unholy Edition.

To be in with a chance of winning this prize all you have to do is head on over to the Merge Games Facebook page (which can be found here) and press the ‘Like’ button. Once the page reaches a certain number fans can start submitting their questions, and at the end of the competition the 10 best questions will be chosen and Mr McMillen will answer that. When Shank was released in late 2010, it was a surprise package thatgained a cult following. The side-scrolling beat-em-up is blood-filled and has a distinct, expressive animation style. Featuring co-operative multiplayer, the game harked back to retro titles such as Final Fight.

Well now Electronic Arts and KLEI Entertainment can proudly announce that Shank 2 will be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC next week. The game features an overhauled control system – that now offers more accuracy, there are now many new moves and executions for disposing of your foes in a variety of vicious ways, a whole arsenal of new weapons and a host of bloofd-thirsty thugs to fight against. On top of all of that, there is a new survival mode, which also features co-op, where players defend their supplies against waver after wave of goons.

The first game won many awards for its distinct and exciting 2d drawn art style, and the game is packed to the rafters with intricate animations that occur when you are reigning down violence on your foes, with Chainsaws, Knives and Guns – for example. We had a lot of fun with the first title, and can’t wait to see how the formula has been refined for this sequel. So rev up your Chainsaw, and ready your Knife, its time to fight for your life.
