Monkey Island 2: Special Edition Dropping Anchor Soon!

by on June 23, 2010

Avast! The upcoming Special Edition of Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge, will be released on July 7th, Lucasarts have today announced. The game will allow players to control the protagonist – Guybrush – with the analogue stick directly, rather than the traditional point and click cursor method deployed by console adventure games, with patchy results. This will make sense on console releases, but we will wait to see whether mouse-driven cursor control will remain for the PC release.

The hint system from the first Special Edition has been improved and there are new trigger button commands that will suggest what actions would be most suitable to use in your current siuation or a highlight system to show what objects in a scene can be interacted with.

The game also includes such bonuses as commentary from former Golden Age Lucasarts developers Tim Schafer, Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman will be accessible at certain points throughout the game, concept art will unlock at various points and be accessed through the menus and, unlike its predecessor, Monkey Island 2: Special Edition can overlay the new voice-overs over the original game in Classic Mode, so you can have the retro experience, without having to squint at the text.

Monkey Island 2: Special Edition will reach our shores on 7th July for Mac, PC, PSN and XBLA. Expect iPhone and iPad conversions further down the line.
