New Ghostbusters Game Announced

by on December 3, 2010

Following the lukewarm reception that the previous title in the franchise – Ghostbusters: The Video Game – received, you might be surprised to find out that Atari is readying another new Ghostbusters title for release. Whilst the last game was excellent presentation and story-wise – featuring acting and writing from the original movie cast – the third-person shooter gameplay was lacklustre and the game performed relatively poorly. Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime will be a downloadable four-player cooperative action game. Opposed to the previous game, it won’t use the original actors voices and appears to be an isometric arcade shooter.

In development from Wanako, the title will sees gamers playing as the rookie buster character who was created specifically for the last game, who is effectively the fifth Ghostbuster. The game will feature “gigantic bosses that require teamwork and the entirety of the ghostbusting arsenal: the proton stream, plasma inductor and the fermion shock.” And from the screenshots released today, we can assume that a vehicle section will be included also, with the iconic converted ambulance making an appearance.

The game will be downloadable for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. It’s currently scheduled for a spring 2011 release.
