Sony Keen To Follow Microsoft & Bring PSN Titles To Retail Shelves

by on March 7, 2011

British Videogame retailers GAME began a scheme last month which would trial selling scratchcards in-store that can then be redeemed online, on an Xbox 360 console, against specific Arcade game titles and downloadable content. Whilst this sales model has only been rolled out across forty GAME shops so far, it is an avenue that Sony have stated that they would also like to go down with downloadable titles taken from the PlayStation Network.

The company already have a similar scheme in place with U.S. games retailer GameStop, where cards are sold in-store that will represent a downloadable online game. SCEE President Andrew House went on to say that they “would like to work with the right retail partners in Europe under the right model, to undertake the same sort of activity.” All of this means that soon PlayStation Network downloadable titles and content such as Flower or possibly even classic PSone titles could be available to purchase on your local High Street.

40 GAME stores in the UK started selling scratchcards for individual pieces of downloadable content on Xbox Live Arcade in February as a pilot scheme. Read more details about their trial here.
