Who is up for a little Retro Bloodsport action?

Classic Atari arcade-style, future-sport game Speedball 2 has recently received the iOS revamp treatment, returning as Speedball 2 Evolution. The game has received critical acclaim and reached the number one spot in the App Store across most of Europe, as well as enjoying fantastic sales figures worldwide. Now, in order to celebrate its fantastic start and to tie in with impending St Patrick’s Day festivities, publisher Tower Studios and developer The Bitmap Brothers have applied an Irish makeover to the game.

As part of this, the game will now include a special St Patrick’s Day Shamrock shield to be used for new career teams, a new sporty icon and new improved virtual d-pad art. The update will also fix several bugs, including loading problems and kit clashing issues.

Mike Montgomery, owner of the long-standing British company who developed the original game, The Bitmap Brother’s said that “We are really happy that Speedball 2 is as successful and popular now as it was 21 years ago. It’s amazing to think we have a No.1 hit in the charts again after all these years”.

The new title overhaul for iOS includes; the choice of tilt or on-screen joystick controls, 28 teams from all over the galaxy, a long, ten-season career mode as well as another ten single player modes, multiplayer available over both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and full Game Center achievement implementation. Users on iPhone 4 can also make use of Retina Display and iPad will feature High Definition graphics.

Speedball 2 Evolution is available in the App Store on iTunes now. It can be played on Apple iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and it is priced at £0.59 / €0.79 / $0.99.
