New Trailer Shows The Darker Side Of The Secret World

by on July 14, 2011

Games can be in development for years, sometimes being restarted again and again, but they eventually find their way into our hands; the Secret World is no different. Since it was officially announced back in 2007 we’ve heard some news about it but it’s always been very sporadic, often with months and months between the slivers of news, so it was always going to be a little exciting when we got to see a new trailer.

Especially one as visually appealing as this one.

The Secret World is the new upcoming MMO from Funcom, the creators of Anarchy Online and Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, and is set in the modern world blending together classic MMO elements with social networking and alternate reality gaming.

The game will feature an original setting created by Funcom, with contemporary elements as well as magic, myths, conspiracies and dark horrors. The game is set in the modern day real world but also incorporates pieces of ancient mythologies, real and false history, urban legends, and pop culture, and ties them into an original back-story. The players will assume the roles of supernatural heroes who participate in a future war between good and evil, fighting dark monsters that threaten the modern world.

The Secret World is due to be released on the PC and possibly the Xbox 360, although no firm release date has been set.
