BATTLESHIP Game Coming This April – Sailors RejoiceHave you ever wondered what it would be like to play a game that has Warships, Spaceships, Aliens AND Sailors in it? Well my friends, step right this way…

Activision have today unleashed a bevy of information regarding a new BATTLESHIP video game coming to Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, Nintendo DS and 3DS this April.

As you might have guessed, the new Battleship game is set to be released alongside a movie bearing the same name, starring Liam Neeson. No really, Liam Neeson is in it. Check out the trailer here.

Back to the game itself, it will feature a standalone story that sits alongside    its big screen cousin, and offer up a blend of strategic naval command (like the board game) and first-person action gameplay (like most other games). You will be playing on the side of the U.S Navy, specifically demolitions expert Cole Mathis as he goes up against aquatic-based aliens in the sand and sea of the Hawaiian archipelago. Quite a prospect, then.

“We’re geared up for an outrageous sea and land conflict with the all new BATTLESHIP videogame,” said David Oxford, Activision Publishing.  “Inspired by the film’s exciting action and stunning backdrop, the game is next-gen naval warfare that thrusts players into the middle of humanity’s last stand against an unfamiliar menace.”

This blend of real time strategy and ground level action is an intriguing prospect, and is a concept I would love to see refined into an enjoyable experience. If the developers can seamlessly integrate the two different play styles, they could be onto a winner.

We won’t have long to find out how the game turns out, stay tuned to God is a Geek for all the latest on Battleship.
