Things Are Looking Up for the PS Vita. 1.2 Million Sold Worldwide

The Vita arrived to our shores, North America, Latin America and Singapore on the 22nd February and Sony have revealed some numbers for the handheld console. As of the 26th February, the PS Vita has sold 1.2 million worldwide! It launched in Japan on the 17th December and came out in Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea shortly afterward. Sony’s newest handheld has been lagging in sales after its initial burst onto the scene. In recent weeks, its predessessor, the PSP has even been outselling it. 2 million copies of PS Vita games have been shifted at retail and via the PSN.

Andrew House, President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment said, “PS Vita was designed to deliver the ultimate portable entertainment experience, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the reaction we’re seeing from consumers and the pace at which PS Vita is selling…The market has responded and there is clear demand for a mobile device capable of providing a revolutionary combination of rich gaming and social connectivity within a real world context.  To sustain momentum, we’re working closely with 3^rd party developers and publishers to ensure the best games and franchises possible will be available on PS Vita, and our software line up for the remainder of 2012 will have something for everyone across the globe.”

Lately, Sony have been saying all the right things for early adopters to be pleased with their purchase of the system. It is a really solid bit of kit and the potential for this thing is great as long as developers and publishers support it. 1.2 million is a really good number for the system and the PS Vita has clearly been received a lot more positively here than in the East.
