Sony Close Zipper Interactive

Sony-Close-Zipper-InteractiveSony today announced the closure of Seattle based studio Zipper Interactive, creators of SOCOM, MAG and Unit 13.

Founded in 1995 by Jim Bosler and Brian Soderberg, Zipper Interactive started off making PC games like DeathDrome and Crimson Skies before moving to consoles with SOCOM: US Navy SEALs. Sony acquired Zipper in January 2006, they produced five more games for various PlayStation platforms, the most recent being Unit 13 for the PS Vita.

A statement released today from Sony said:
“The closure is a result of a normal cycle of resource re-alignment within SCE WWS, Zipper has completed all work associated with its most recent project, Unit 13 for PS Vita. Zipper titles MAG, SOCOM 4 and Unit 13 will continue to be supported, including the new Daily Challenges in Unit 13.”

So sadly another developer has bitten the dust. Everyone at GodisaGeek sends their best wishes to those who have lost their jobs.

Thank you Zipper for 17 years of hard work, and for each of the 14 games you developed. You can send your own messages thanking the guys and girls at Zipper Interactive via their Twitter @Zipper.
